This game uses a code I remembered from a Graeme Base book. The ace of hearts is A; the king of hearts is M; the ace of clubs is N; the king of clubs is Z; and you can fill in the rest. You can guess all this if you intuit that the dealer's cards spell DEALER. Your cards spell BAMBOO.
The Look the Other Way minigame in Super Mario RPG is tedious, but in this one you always win! Note the direction-choices that get cycled through, and interpret them as semaphore. They spell KEBAB or I guess BABKE if you start in the middle. So don't do that.
No matter which Yoshis are in the race, the one that comes in first has a name that starts with S. The one that comes in last place has a name that ends in E. In fact, if you read down the diagonal of any results, the letters will spell SPINDLE.
If you try enough times, you'll notice that you always roll a 6.
The minipuzzle answers spell BAMBOO KEBAB SPINDLE (6), so the answer is SKEWER, which is sharp, and it's also an attack some enemies use in Super Mario RPG.
