The rule dividing Unseelie and Seelie Courts changes every night. But it's not that the Seelie Court follows a rule and the Unseelie Court doesn't follow it; really, each court is following its own rule. Or they're following the same rule in different ways.
When you understand the rule for a night, assign the faeries under "No Idea" to the Unseelie or Seelie Courts. Then, treat Unseelie as 0 and Seelie as 1 to get a five-bit binary number that you can convert into a letter.
- Night 1: Unseelie names contain double vowels. Seelie names contain double consonants. No Idea contains Annabelle, Moonbeam, Teela, Muddlebug, Pippi, or 10011 = S.
- Night 2: Unseelie names hide names of mammals (elk, panda, rabbit, goat, lemur). Seelie names hide names of birds (eagle, robin, heron, swan, finch). No Idea contains Swallow, Bear, Starling, Otter, Oriole, or 10101 = U.
- Night 3: Unseelie names contain moons of Saturn. Seelie names contain moons of Jupiter. No Idea contains Tarvos, Calypso, Lysithea, Pasithee, Leda, or 00111 = G.
- Night 4: In Unseelie names, the last letter of the first name is the first letter of the last name. In Seelie names, it's, the other way around. 00001 = A.
- Night 5: Unseelie names contain composite numbers. Seelie names contain prime numbers. No Idea contains 13, 20, 8, 3, 3448 or 10010 = R.
- Night 6: Unseelie names contain shades of purple (orchid, phlox, mulberry, palatinate, thistle). Seelie names contain shades of orange (tangelo, butterscotch, persimmon, saffron, carrot). No Idea contains goldenrod, mauve, magenta, heliotrope, violet, or 10000 = P.
- Night 7: Unseelie names are typed with just your left hand. Seelie names are typed with just your right hand. 01100 = L.
- Night 8: All names start and end with the same pair of letters. For Unseelie names, this pair of letters is the postal abbreviation for a state on the northern border of the contiguous United States; for Seelie names, it's the southern border. AL WA MS MN NM = 10101 = U.
- Night 9: Unseelie names begin with an abbreviation for a day of the week. Seelie names begin with an abbreviation for a month. Tuesta, Maylinda, Julibee, Thuban, Janus = 01101 = M.
Phew! The answer must be SUGAR PLUM.
