I have copied this puzzle titled "Efficiency" from the 2003 MIT Mystery Hunt. This new version uses basically the same mechanic, and it is not cheating to just read the solution from the original. A string of two or more letters in the answer for each clue on the left can be replaced by a single letter in an answer to the right. The clues on the left are alphabetical by their answers; in the order supplied on the right side, the word pairs are BIBLE/BILE, THANKS/THIS, LAURY/FURY, NEWT/NET, TWINNED/TONED, PEARY/FRY, and TURKS/TURF. The replaced strings spell BLANK LAW TWIN PEAKS, referring to Episode 16 of Twin Peaks, which has the not-super-official title "ARBITRARY Law."
