This puzzle is inspired by that famous passage in the Aeneid where the shield of Aeneas is described in incredible detail over the course of ~140 lines of poetry. The shield in this puzzle is 11 cubits square, and in fact it is basically a crossword puzzle on an 11x11 grid. The mythic(-ish) figures named are:
I really hope the poem makes it possible to figure out how you're supposed to arrange these names to cover the grid. I really hope this puzzle is solvable. It should look like this:
| B | E | O | W | U | L | F | ||||
| D | G | |||||||||
| O | Y | O | E | |||||||
| R | O | S | A | L | I | N | D | |||
| L | S | I | C | D | ||||||
| A | E | N | E | I | D | |||||
| N | U | O | L | A | A | |||||
| D | S | A | N | P | ||||||
| O | H | Y | D | R | A | H | ||||
| U | N | |||||||||
| P | S | Y | C | H | E |
Then you read across the center to get the answer, which is AENEID.
