The clues, with every second letter reinstated, read:
- solfege note, between "re" and "fa," at beginning of "Till There Was You"
- Clark Kent's (and Superman's) love interest (her initials, anyway)
- language of Geoffrey Chaucer, Oscar Wilde, Danielle Steele, and Tennessee Williams
- chemical element that rhymes with "pickle" and "bicycle"
- suffix of many chemical elements' names, but not the one from the previous clue
To make the answers fit into the two-letter blanks above, they have to be MI, LL, EN, NI, and UM, which spells the answer, MILLENNIUM. Which is much, much longer than a "second"—get it???
